In recent time, crisis in the Yoruba movie industry has led to an obvious division following a palace coup against the present leadership in the Association of NigeriaTheatre Practitioners (ANTP). The  ’palace coup’  which was ‘hatched’ at a  meeting  attended by mostly contemporaries of the embattled President Victor Ashaolu according to a reliable also resolved to float a new asscociation to be registered as Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN). The new association is an apparent response to the logjam that followed Justice Bimbola Yussuff’s judgement on the festering leadership crisis in the Yoruba movie industry. Justice Yussuf had in her judgement two weeks ago, dismissed the prayers of the Dele Odule-led faction contesting the legality of Comrade Victor Ashaolu’s Presidency following the 2010 election that took place in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Before  the judgement, about two associations- The Ambassadors and One House- have been speculated to be operating underground and wooing new members.

Obviously not satisfied with the course of justice, some core practitioners led by the Governors from the seven states that the troubled ANTP operates had an intervention meeting with other stakeholders last week. At the meeting it was resolved that the association needed to be rescued from its crisis and a measure of discipline needed to be instilled to restore its past glory.

The second secret meeting held earlier today in Ikorodu, Lagos. It was hosted by popular actor and onetime ANTP President, Adebayo Salami, aka Oga Bello. The meeting described as strategic was attended by Dele Odule, Muka and Lasun Ray, Fokoko, Yomi-Duro-Ladipo and the Governors from Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, Oyo and Kwara and numerous others.

The decision of the meeting which was agreed to be kept away from the public and media, source  reliably gathered have been lauded and embraced by some influential elders in the Yoruba theatre community.

Speaking, Adebayo Salami, confirmed there was a meeting of stakeholders of ANTP in his Ikorodu homestead but hinted that the outcome of the meeting cannot be made public or made available to the media. “We will convey the outcome of our deliberations to the media and the general public at the appopriate time,” he said. However, he added, “we are still members of ANTP.”

The meeting which started at 11:00 AM lasted five hours.
