HOAYS Gross Almost N40Million In two Weeks.

The much anticipated release of ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ has come and gone but the movie is currently living up to expectations in the Nigerian market by topping the chart for three weeks consecutively.

The movie which has been showing in cinemas since August 1st, has been able to gross almost N40 Million naira in two weeks. This figure is gathered from various cinemas across the country. Collated figures from the cinemas show that the movie is beating all other Hollywood movies.

HOAYS broke box office records in its first weekend by making over N16Million ahead of other box office record giants.The movie is now at the number one spot in Nigerian cinemas, ahead of Marvel Studio’s ‘Guardian of Galaxy’.

According to an official of Bigsam Media “the acceptance rate of HOAYS in Nigerian cinemas has been massive, it has been awesome. We are grateful to all movie lovers who have gone to see the movie, we want to urge all those who have not seen it to please go to the cinemas and experience a difference in Nigerian Movie. We are grateful for all the love and support that we have received on HOAYS so far”.

HOAYS was released in Nigerian cinemas on August 1st, after a three month delay by the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB).

‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ is a movie set in the era of the Biafra war in Nigeria. It is a story of love, lust, jealousy, greed and brings to light the effects of war on lives and emotions.

The movie, featuring BAFTA award winner and Oscar nominee, Chiwetel Ejiofor, BAFTA award winner Thandie Newton,Onyeka Onwenu, Genevieve Nnaji, O.C. Ukeje, and Zack Orji, is adapted from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s award-winning international best-seller, and is written and directed by Biyi Bandele.
