Yesterday Sunday, April 26, was the anticipated premiere of “KHADIJAT” the new movie by Yoruba actress, Tayo Odueke popularly known as Sikiratu Sindodo.

The movie premiere which took place at Time Square Events Centre Ikeja, Lagos was well attended and had some top shots in the Yoruba movie industry like Fathia Balogun, Dayo Amusa, Mercy Aigbe, Biodun Okeowo, Tayo Sobola (Sotayo), Mercy Aigbe Gentry, Mide Martins to mention but a few were also present to give the event glam.

The comperes for the evening to lighten up moods and to pilot the order of program were Gbenga Adeyinka (CFR) and Kenny Rhoda, these duo held everyone spell bound and lived up to the bill.

Also present at the event were top business moguls and politicians to show support to the producer. These business men were the lifeline of the event when it was time for the lunching of the movie as they made robust financial donations in the realm of thousands of dollars to lunch the new movie.

The event was nothing short of a success on every side, but the fact remains that it leaves a bad taste on the mouth each time I asked myself if it was really a Premiere I attended, a Shindig or better still just a concert.

For me a few things fell below expectation as far as the event was concerned. Firstly was timing; the event which was originally billed for 2pm did not commence until around 6.30pm but the attendees were awesome as most waited patiently until the event kicked off.

One thing that just never seizes to baffle me is if some of our movie industry practitioners understand what it means to PREMIERE a movie. Well then to set the record straight, a Premiere is supposed to be the first public performance, (public screening) of a play, Opera or Film. With that back drop, I wonder what to call a situation where a premiere would be done without the movie being shown not in whole or even in bit.

Permit my line of thought, I am tempted to think that Sikiratu Sindodo haven’t even shot the film “KHADIJAT”, and only arranged a fund raising concert to harness money for the shoot proper.

All that characterized the evening were performances from Lanre Terriba (Atorise) who opened the floor setting everybody in the mood to turn up, and then the grand performance for the night was by Suleiman Alao Malaika.

I can only wish that our Practitioners take a cue from this and understand the ethics of their profession and always bearing in mind that being a Film maker goes beyond the Razzmatazz that comes with the social status.

That’s why Funke Akindele distance herself from most of them, they lack proper knowledge…I can now see why Funke don’t associate with them at all.
