Fast-rising rapper and son of legal luminary, Femi Falana, Folarin aka Falz is doing quite well in his music career, and his comic skits on social media have not gone unnoticed. He will also be appearing on the second season of Jenifa’s Diary, and in this chat, he tells us about his experience. Excerpts…

How did you find yourself on Jenifa’s Diary?

Well, acting has always been something I wanted to do. It has been a passion of mine and I really enjoy it. I was invited to make an appearance in the series and I decided to honor the invitation; that’s why I’m here.

What’s your impression of Jenifa’s Diary and the character of Funke Akindele?

I think she is a very intelligent and prolific actress and it is something that has always shown in every project she has been involved in. Jenifa’s Diary is a great show that projects her skill. I feel honoured being invited for this great series.

What role are you playing in Jenifa’s Diary?

I play the role of a hairdresser called Segun, and he works in the same salon with Jenifa. Along the line, they fell in love and they had an affair; that’s the summary.

What is the chemistry like between you?

I enjoy being on set.

Is the storyline close to reality?

No, the story line isn’t close to reality because in the first place I don’t think I would find myself in that hairdressing salon. But it is a great and interesting story that people would enjoy.

Is there going to be an identity crisis since you’re a music artiste and you want to go into acting?

Not necessarily. Internationally, we have the likes of Will Smith, Chris Brown and TI who are musicians that have ventured into acting, so I wouldn’t be doing anything strange so far I’m prolific in both ends.

Are you finding it easy?

It is very difficult and demanding to combine anything, but if it’s something that you genuinely want and enjoy, you have to dedicate your time to it.

Do you wish you ventured into acting first?

Not necessarily. I think I started at a good time because I was still in school when I began. I just continued to build the foundation and get better.

What do your parents think about your entertainment career considering the fact that you studied Law?

They are very much in support of what I am doing, and they have done all they can to encourage me, which I appreciate. They are proud of what I have been able to achieve, and they continue to encourage me.

They say people’s traits come from their parents; which one of them did you take your traits from because your father is known to be a very ‘serious’ person?

My parents are both very funny and I believe I got my humour from them. My mum is dramatic as well, so I believe I got that part from her.

How long do you intend to be on Jenifa’s Diary?

For as long as I am required to, till my character fades out; it depends on the script and story line.
